Navidad Latinoamericana - Latin American Christmas

11/02/97 -- Charito Calvachi has dedicated herself to preserving her Latin American culture and traditions. It was in this spirit that she began a labor of love that resulted in an extensively researched book that represents the music, prayers, and Christmas traditions of
twenty-five (25) Latin American Countries. This bilingual work (Spanish and English) is accompanied by a compact disk that provides the reader with the best known traditional Christmas carols from Mexico to Argentina. Marco Vinicio Rueda, S.J., is the author of the prayers. Fernando Reinoso of Alangasí, Ecuador, beautifully illustrates the book
with original art based on designs by Charito.

According to Charito, "The realization that such a resource was needed became clear to me when my nieces and nephews asked me to teach them the customs and celebrations of our native Ecuador. My memory alone could not provide the full spirit of our rich traditions. As I spoke to friends, I learned that the same situation was experienced by other
Latinos who live in the United States."

This book and CD serves to enhance and maintain the rich Latino customs and to pass them on from generation to generation.
